Notes from Nashville is a journal of artwork by artist Chris Tatrn, following his weekly journeys around Nashville, TN and the south, as well as weekly figure drawings at Channel to Channel gallery, and still lifes from his home studio.
My artwork is in the contemporary realism style. Often using traditional themes in still life, landscapes, and figurative art, my work explores the relationship of form and movement to achieve rhythm and harmony. It is expressed in conventional mediums including oil painting and terra-cotta sculpture. Viewers may visually connect with my subject, but they will also be moved emotionally by the underlying composition, mood, and creativity. While I use a variety of subjects in my work, my approach is consistent. I focus on the initial impulse that moves you to create, the spark that drives you onward, and the dynamic that sustains you to completion, resulting in an aesthetically balanced, powerful, and engaging composition.
